Finished patio cover at twilight with cedar posts and a dark gable

Home/Patio Covers

Patio covers and carports in Lawton, Oklahoma

Built on site from real posts and cut rafters, set in concrete, braced for Oklahoma wind.

Built, not bolted together

Posts in concrete, rafters cut on site

A kit carport arrives flat-packed and gets anchored to your slab. It lasts until the first straight-line wind takes an interest in it.

John sets his posts in concrete, cuts the rafters and purlins to the span, and braces the frame before the roof goes on. He draws the thing first so you can see the pitch and the post positions before anybody digs a hole.

Questions

About covers and carports

Do I need a slab first?
Not always. A carport can go on packed ground with the posts set in footings, and the slab can follow later. John prices it both ways.
Will it match my house?
The roof can run the same shingle as the house or a metal panel picked to sit with the brick. He shows you the options before he orders anything.
Do you draw it before you build it?
Yes. John puts the structure on a drawing first so you can see the pitch, the span and where the posts land.
Can you build a deck as well?
Yes, along with stairs, railing and cedar privacy fence. The deck stairs on this page came out and went back in cedar.
